The centre of the Umbrian Valley

Located halfway between Perugia and Assisi, Foligno has a small historic centre full of important monuments. The town is flat and makes it pleasant and easy destination for biking or walking.

In the central Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) you will enjoy the unique architectural ensemble of the Cathedral, Palazzo Comunale and Palazzo Trinci.

In Piazza del Grano you can admire Biblioteca Comunale (the City Library) built in 1402 in the Gothic style, as well as the church of San Giacomo, the Oratory of Nunziatella from 1492 containing works by Perugino.

You might also be interested to visit Parco dei Canapè, a popular place for recreation and relaxation surrounded by the ancient city walls between Porta Romana and Porta Todi.

And don't miss Abbazia di Sassovivo (The Abbey of Sassovivo). It's located 6 km from the centre and is well worth a short hike! This Benedictine complex was founded in 1070, and only the Gregorian chants and the wind break the silence that dominates this place surrounded by olive groves and woods.
